Social Status: Ryan's always seen himself as a loser, so it probably should've come as no surprise to him that everyone else thought of him that way too. He easily fell into the slacker/stoner crowd from the time one even really formed around middle school, and he's stayed comfortable below-average at just about everything he's ever done.

Personal History: Ryan never met his dad. The 37-year-old man took off after getting Ryan's then-15-year-old mother pregnant. His grandparents disowned his mother when she was 17 and kicked her and Ryan out of the house after she was consistently in trouble with drugs and prostituting herself. His mother finally started to straighten out when Ryan was 7 and she was put in the hospital by a guy who'd picked her up for a little cash that night. She moved the two to Pebble Beach and began working two legitimate jobs to get by, but it never really got any easier. Ryan wishes there was more he could've done for his mom, but he always felt guilty about ruining her life.

Relation to Nick: Nick was Ryan's best friend. He trusted him more than he'd ever trusted anyone besides his mother, and he never really felt like anyone else had looked at him as anything other than a total burnout.

Location during shooting: Ryan was in the cafeteria when the shooting began. He ran over and tried to stop Nick, grabbing for the gun when it accidentally went off.

Personality: Ryan is a sad loner made only sadder and lonelier since the shooting.
